As a very young person and now as an older, hopefully mature Christ follower, I have mused about the Second Coming of Christ. My common sense told me, that if all Christendom agreed, that Jesus would come again, then some generation of a surety would see that Second Coming. I knew from the prophets and Daniel and the book of Revelation that there were signs in the earth of His coming. Jesus spoke in His own words: "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon and in the stars, and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring, men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift your heads, because your redemption draws near.'' Luke 21:25
In my mind, I could envision the aged prophet Simeon and the old prophetess Anna, standing on the temple steps, having served God all their lives, saying: "I shall not die until I have seen the Messiah." Book of Luke. I could imagine that night in Bethlehem, as the Shepherds saw and heard the heavens 'declare the Glory of God', at the birth of the Christ child. That event had been prophesied all through the old testament, but that night was the date appointed in eternity and that night, that day could not pass without the coming of the Savior of the world and they called His name Jesus. In just a few days, when Mary and Joseph would take Jesus to the temple, old Simeon and Anna would see with their eyes, what they had believed with their hearts. In like manner, I believe by the Word of God, that this generation shall not pass away, until we have seen the coming of Christ, King of Kings and LORD of Lord's. I shall live to see what I have believed in my heart, for now a life time.
